Vertical placement for Asian text
The Maplex Label Engine enables vertical character orientation for proper display of vertical Asian text. This allows the horizontal display of individual characters when the label is placed vertically. A single label will not mix vertical and horizontal layouts, and the text symbol will be updated to draw text with a vertical layout above 45 degrees and a horizontal layout under 45 degrees.
This option is only available if the font has vertical text metrics.
Note:
You can control the character orientation of the Asian text labels by specifying the placement position and the CJK character orientation.
For line features
- Horizontal labels: Specify Horizontal placement and no CJK character orientation.
- Vertical labels: Specify Horizontal placement and CJK character orientation.
- Both horizontal and vertical depending on angle of label: Specify Straight or Curved placement and CJK character orientation.
