Rotate Tree layout algorithm properties

When the Rotate Tree schematic layout algorithm is chosen in the Layout Task drop-down list, clicking the Layout Algorithm Properties button Layout Algorithm Properties icon on the Schematic Editor toolbar opens its associated properties dialog box as follows:

Schematic Layout Algorithm dialog box with Rotate Tree properties tab

The parameter values are those either specified by default by Schematics or specifically set as the default for the schematic diagram template related to the active diagram using the Schematic Dataset Editor Layouts tab for this schematic diagram template.

Angle parameter

The Angle parameter specifies the angle (in degrees) that will be used to rotate the tree associated with the schematic node currently selected in the active diagram.

Rotate node symbols with the same angle check box

Checking the Rotate node symbols with the same angle check box automatically stores the specified rotation angle in the ROTATION field of each schematic feature class that implements the nodes in your schematic diagram. This allows you to symbolize the schematic nodes by this ROTATION field so the symbols of the nodes belonging to the tree are also rotated according to the same rotation angle. To get the schematic nodes to display with rotated symbols in ArcMap, you must work from the Layer Properties dialog box related to the desired node feature layer. On this dialog box, click the Advanced button; click Rotation; then, from the Rotate dialog box that opens, choose ROTATION from the Rotate Points by Angle in this field drop-down list. You also need to check the Arithmetic option so the assigned symbol is rotated as expected (that is, from east in a counterclockwise direction).

The Rotate node symbols with the same angle check box is unchecked by default.

Links currently selected prevent the algorithm from executing beyond them check box

Check the Links currently selected prevent the algorithm from executing beyond them check box if you want the links currently selected in the active diagram to be interpreted as barriers to prevent the Rotate Tree algorithm from executing beyond them. This box is checked by default.

The figures below show the results of these different parameters. Figure 1.1 shows the initial schematic diagram. The schematic node in red at the center is the selected schematic node from which the Rotate Tree layout algorithm is going to run. Figure 1.2 represents the diagram after Rotate Tree algorithm execution with Angle = 45. Figure 1.3 shows the diagram obtained when the Rotate node symbols with the same angle option is checked (this angle being 45). Figure 1.4 shows the diagram obtained when there are links currently selected in the diagram and the Links currently selected prevent the algorithm from executing beyond them option is checked (the Angle parameter value being 45).

Restore Defaults button

Click the Restore Defaults button to reinitialize all the Rotate Tree parameters with their default values. The restored values are those either specified by default by Schematics or specifically set as the default for the schematic diagram template related to the active diagram using the Schematic Dataset Editor Layouts tab for this schematic diagram template.
