An overview of the Workspace toolset

The Workspace toolset comprises a set of tools to create the data storage structures used by ArcGIS. These structures include workspace, folder, two types of geodatabases, feature dataset, and an ArcSDE connection file.

Tool	Description
Clear Workspace Cache	Clears any ArcSDE workspaces from the ArcSDE workspace cache.
Create ArcInfo Workspace	Creates a workspace with an INFO subdirectory.
Create ArcSDE Connection File	Creates an ArcSDE connection file for use in connecting to ArcSDE geodatabases.
Create Database Connection	Creates a connection file that can be used to connect to an enterprise database or ArcSDE geodatabase.
Create Feature Dataset	Creates a feature dataset in the output location—an existing ArcSDE, file geodatabase, or personal geodatabase.
Create File GDB	Creates a file geodatabase in a folder.
Create Folder	Creates a folder in the specified location.
Create Personal GDB	Creates a personal geodatabase in a folder.
Create Spatial Type	The Create Spatial Type tool adds the ST_Geometry SQL type, subtypes, and functions to an Oracle or PostgreSQL database. This allows you to use the ST_Geometry SQL type to store geometries in a database that does not contain a geodatabase. This tool also can be used to upgrade an existing ST_Geometry installation in an Oracle or PostgreSQL database.
