Finding an upstream path

Steps:

1. Click the tool palette drop-down arrow on the Utility Network Analyst toolbar and click a flag tool button ( or ).
2. Click Analysis and click Options.
3. Click the Results tab.
4. Click Selection to return the results of the analysis as selections.
5. Uncheck Junctions.

   This returns only edges in the results.

6. Click OK.
7. Click on the map to place a flag at the destination point.
8. Click the Trace Task drop-down arrow and click Trace Upstream.
9. Click the Solve button .
10. Click Analysis and click Clear Flags.
11. On the main menu, click Selection > Interactive Selection Method > Add to Current Selection.
12. Click on the map to place a flag at the origin point.
13. Click the Trace Task drop-down arrow and click Trace Downstream.
14. Click the Solve button .
15. Click Analysis and click Options.
16. Click the General tab and click Unselected features to treat the current selections as barriers.
17. Click OK.
18. On the main menu, click Selection > Interactive Selection Method > Create New Selection.
19. Click on the map to place a flag at the destination point.
20. Click the Trace Task drop-down arrow and click Find Path.
21. Click the Solve button .

The result will be an upstream path from the origin point to the destination point if one exists.

Find a downstream path using a process similar to finding an upstream path.
