Viewing the visual specification rule properties on the Visual Specifications dialog box (Aviation)
The main part of the Visual Specifications dialog box dedicates one row to each rule. The properties listed in the main area of the Visual Specifications dialog box are as follows:

Rule GUID |
A unique identifier for the rule. |
Rule Type |
The type of specification rule, calculated representations, or calculated field. |
Specification |
The name of the visual specification. |
Description |
A description of the visual specification. |
Processing Order |
The order in which the rule is going to be processed. This usually reflects the order in which the rules have been created. |
Rule Description |
A description of the calculated representation. |
Workspace |
The database that contains the feature class with which the rule is associated. This value is not stored with the specification but must be temporarily set if modifications are going to be made to the specification. |
Dataset |
The name of the feature class or table that has the rule associated with it. This usually matches the name of the layer. |
Layer |
The name of the layer that has the rule associated with it. This usually matches the name of the dataset. |
Rep/Field Name |
The name of the representation for calculated representations, or the name of the field that contains the text strings for calculated fields. |
Pre Code |
The name of custom precompiled code that is executed before the rule is applied to data. |
SQL Statement |
The SQL statement used to define the features that are going to be included in the assignment of the representation rule or field value. |
Expression |
A VB script that either refines the way features are symbolized using representations or defines the field whose values are the calculated fields. |
Preview |
A picture of the symbol that corresponds with the representation rule or an example of a field value. |
Explicit Override Fields |
Names of fields that override the appearance of the symbol. This cell includes the feature geometry type, what aspect of the symbol is overridden, and the name of the field that has control. |
Post Code |
The name of the custom precompiled code that is executed after the rule is applied to data. |
- Start ArcMap.
- On the main menu, click Customize > Toolbars > Production Symbology.

Click the Visual Specifications button on the Production Symbology toolbar.
The Visual Specifications dialog box appears.

Click Advanced.
The Visual Specifications Advanced View dialog box appears displaying rules saved in the selected specifications.
- Click OK when you are finished reviewing the rule properties.
You can also access the rule properties by clicking Options > Advanced on the Calculated Representations or Calculated Fields tab on the Layer Properties dialog box.
You can also access the rule properties from the Product Library window if you right-click Product Library and click Configure > Visual Specifications, then click Advanced.
