Collecting Hydarea features (Maritime Charting)

When collecting Hydarea features, you are required to code the CVL and CVH values along with ACC on each feature you create. Currently there is no automation tool for this.

When coding large depth areas that might be shoals or deeps, you need to find the highest or lowest sounding value. To help with this query, use the Select By Location tool on the Selection menu.

Steps:
  1. Start ArcMap.
  2. If necessary, set up the DNC production environment.
  3. Click the Production Start Editing button Production Start Editing on the Production Editing toolbar.
    NoteNote:

The Manage Features and Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes windows automatically appear when you start an edit session using the Production Start Editing tool.

    TipTip:

If the Create Attributes, Update Attributes, or Metadata Attributes window does not appear when you start an edit session, click the Show/Hide Attributes button Show/Hide Attributes on the Manage Features window.

  4. Select the area you want to query.
  5. On the main menu, click Selection > Select by Location.

The Select by Location dialog box appears.

  6. Click the Selection method drop-down arrow and choose add to the currently selected features in.
  7. In the Target layer(s) list, check SoundP.
  8. Click the Source layer drop-down arrow and choose Hydarea.
  9. Check the Use selected features check box if it is not checked.
  10. Click the Spatial selection method for target layer feature(s) drop-down arrow and choose are completely within the source layer feature.
  11. Click Apply.
  12. Click Close.
  13. On the main menu, click Selection > Statistics.

The Selection Statistics dialog box appears.

  14. If necessary, click the Layer drop-down arrow and choose SoundP.
  15. Click the Field drop-down arrow and choose hdp.
  16. In the Update Features window, make sure you have your feature selected and enter the correct CVL and CVH values.
    NoteNote:

Remember to enter the values as they appear on the chart except for character fields. Use the Units Conversion tool to convert values that are in units other than meters.
